Common questions

Does Blackout need the internet?

No. Guides, checklists, first aid, and SafeZone all work fully offline. Only weather alerts and the power grid status need a connection to fetch fresh data.

What's free and what's paid?

Everything safety-related is free with no limits: SOS, siren, emergency mode, all guides, checklists, and weather alerts. A one-time purchase with no subscription unlocks SafeZone, encrypted backups, the supplies calculator, expiry tracking, and battery endurance estimates. With Family Sharing it covers the whole household.

How do I back up my data?

Export an encrypted backup manually in the app and send it to yourself via AirDrop, cable, or email. The app deliberately doesn't back up to the cloud automatically — your data stays with you.

How does SafeZone work?

It connects nearby iPhones over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with no internet and no router. It's meant for emergency communication and shows who is in range.
